about us
Elizabeth Taylor and Robert Shaw are accredited osteopaths of long experience, having both undertaken a four-year full-time course at the country's premier training establishment, the British School of Osteopathy, in London. As such, they are both registered with the General Osteopathic Council. As a condition of their registration they undertake continuous professional development courses, and are fully covered by professional indemnity insurance.
They moved from London to Derbyshire in 1990, opening the practice in Ashbourne in that October, then starting their Derby practice a year later.
Elizabeth Taylor has dedicated her professional life to providing a traditional osteopathic service of the highest quality to residents of Ashbourne and Derbyshire. She regularly attends courses, conferences and seminars, and is in frequent communication with other medical specialists and GPs. She holds a contract with the Derbyshire Dales and South Derbyshire Primary Care Trust to provide treatment to patients within that catchment area, via their GPs.
Robert Shaw has also trained and qualified in both counselling and psychotherapy. He is an accredited practitioner with both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. He obtained his Masters degree in counselling in 1994, Diploma in integrative Psychotherapy in 1997, he obtained his PhD in 2000. He had been a clinic tutor at the British School of Osteopathy, a senior lecturer in counselling and taught on masters and doctoral programmes in the UK and Europe. He now offers short courses from the Ashbourne practice. As a researcher he has specialised in the body in psychotherapy, and is an active member of the Alternative and Complementary Health Research Network. He has presented his work at both national and international conferences, written several papers and written book which was based on his PhD entitled, 'The Embodied Psychotherapist' (published by Brunner-Routledge, 2003: ISBN 1-58391-269-X)
He has also worked as a clinical supervisor since 1997, supervising counsellors and psychotherapists. He also supervises osteopaths and other practitioners who want to explore the mind-body link. He has also received training in somatic trauma therapy with Babette Rothschild, and now incorporates these ideas with his own embodiment research in a safe and effective way to deal with trauma and its aftermath.
